As Andy Williams once sang, Christmas is ‘the most wonderful time of the year’. It’s the combination of school holidays, daylight saving, warm summer weather, and the joy in people’s faces that make Christmas so special in Australia.
But the thing that really makes Christmas so special, (other than the jolly man in the red suit) is the spectacular light displays in our neighbourhood. Driving around, looking at all the wonderful, sparkly lights and displays never wearies! It is a magical wonderment for the young and old.
Here, at Adelaide Mums Group, we have you covered with the ‘must see’ streets this Christmas.
Tune into 88.9FM and take in the beautiful 26,000 lights sparkling to the music. Visit between 1st- 31st December from 8:30pm- 10:30pm.
Where: corner of Marquisite Drive and Emerald Street, Salisbury East
Designed by 15 year old Jayden, the light display is an annual spectacle in Blakeview. Beginning on 4th December, and finishing 31st December, from 7:00pm- 11:00pm.
Where: 10 Currumbin Avenue, Blakeview
Come and see the award winning lights display in Woodville Park. Promnitz Christmas Light Display will be officially alight on 1 December from 8:00pm.

Here are some streets and suburbs recommended by our Adelaide Mums Group members:

Pelham Street, Ethelton
Fairfax Avenue, Millswood (one house plays Christmas movies)
9th Avenue, St Peters
Hollyoaks Court, Happy Valley

We must also not forget The Lights of Lobethal. With a history of over sixty years, it is no wonder the Lights of Lobethal are the largest community light display in the Southern Hemisphere!
Situated in the Adelaide Hills, Lobethal has been a family favourite for exuding Christmas spirit and cheer. The local community band together to create a festival that is not to be forgotten.
Lobethal are also hosting a Pageant Night on Sunday 23rd December from 6:00pm - 10:00pm.
While you’re visiting Lobethal, you must also take a look at Bill & Peg’s Christmas Down Under. Their house on Christmas Lane (what a magical coincidence!) has been an attraction for over 30 years. Their lights will be on from dusk until 11:00pm, from Sunday 9 December- Sunday 30 December.
Lighting of the Christmas Tree at Victoria Square will be held on Friday 1st December. There will be live music, and plenty of food trucks at this FREE event. The festival starts at 6:00pm, and the official lighting of the Christmas tree will be at 8:15pm.
